AutoDub ("we", "us", "our") operates the AutoDub browser extension and autodub.net (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Service handles, why it is needed, how it is shared, and how long it is kept.

The current AutoDub extension works without an account. Installing or using the extension does not require your name, email address, Google account, or YouTube account, and the extension does not create a persistent identifier for you.

Information Used to Provide Dubbing

When you start dubbing, AutoDub sends only the information needed to translate the current video and generate speech:

  • The current YouTube video identifier and caption-track URL.
  • The caption text YouTube already makes available for that video.
  • The source and target languages, selected voice, and speech settings needed to produce the dub.

We do not receive the video or its audio, your microphone, your screen, your YouTube account, or your full browsing history. Because a request identifies the specific YouTube video being dubbed, Chrome Web Store may classify this information as Website content and Web history. We use it only to provide the dubbing feature.

Your extension preferences are stored locally in your browser. Our API hosting infrastructure may process standard request metadata such as IP address, timestamp, and User-Agent for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. We do not use this metadata to build a profile of your viewing activity.

How Information Is Used and Shared

We use service providers only when necessary to operate AutoDub:

  • Google Gemini processes caption text and language settings to produce translations.
  • Microsoft Edge Neural Text-to-Speech processes translated text and voice settings to generate audio.
  • Cloudflare R2 stores shared caption, translation, and audio caches and serves generated audio.
  • Neon stores video metadata and references to cached results.

We do not sell this information, use it for advertising, transfer it for unrelated purposes, or use it to determine creditworthiness. We do not allow people to read caption data except when required for security, legal compliance, or support that you explicitly request.

Shared Cache and Retention

Raw captions, processed captions, translations, generated audio, and related video metadata may be cached so another viewer requesting the same dub can receive it faster. Cache keys are based on the video, language, voice, and text — not on a user identifier. Shared cache entries are kept while they remain useful to provide the Service and may be refreshed or removed as our cache is maintained. Operational logs are kept only as long as needed for security and reliability.

Website Analytics, Legacy Accounts, and Support

Google Analytics is used on autodub.net to understand aggregate page visits and button clicks; it is not embedded in the AutoDub extension. The website retains sign-in infrastructure for legacy extension flows, but the current extension does not require or transmit an account. If you deliberately use a legacy sign-in flow or contact support, we process the account or contact information you provide for that purpose.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

AutoDub's use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide or improve AutoDub's single purpose: translating and dubbing YouTube videos for the user.

Security

AutoDub transmits information over HTTPS and limits access to service infrastructure. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, but we use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the information described above.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page. We'll notify you of significant changes through the Service.
