What is AutoDub?

AutoDub is a free browser extension that dubs YouTube videos in real time. It reads the video's caption track, translates it into the language you choose, and speaks it in a natural AI voice, in sync with the video.

Installation Guide

Chrome Browser

  1. Visit the Chrome Web Store
  2. Search for "AutoDub"
  3. Click the "Add to Chrome" button
  4. Click "Add Extension" in the confirmation popup
  5. After installation, you'll see the AutoDub icon in your browser toolbar

How to Use

1. Find the AutoDub Button

Open any YouTube video. The AutoDub button appears in the player control bar, next to the settings gear.

2. Select Target Language

Click the AutoDub button and pick the language you want to hear from the menu. AutoDub detects the video's original language automatically.

3. Press Play

After you pick a language, just press play. AutoDub translates as the video plays, so there is no waiting for the whole video to process.

4. Adjust Settings

You can adjust the following settings:

  • Dubbing Volume: Adjust the volume of the translated dubbing
  • Original Audio: Adjust the volume of the original audio
  • Speech Rate: Speed the dubbed voice up or slow it down
  • Voice: Pick from male and female voices for each language

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why isn't AutoDub showing on the video page?

A: Make sure the extension is installed, then refresh the YouTube page. If the button still does not appear, open your browser's extensions page and check that AutoDub is enabled.

Q: What if the translation is wrong or hard to follow?

A: The dub is built from the video's caption track, so quality follows the captions. Auto-generated captions can garble unclear audio, so videos with clean speech or creator-uploaded captions translate best.

Q: Does it support offline use?

A: No. AutoDub needs an internet connection to translate and generate the dub.
