Before you start
AutoDub needs a YouTube caption track; auto-generated captions work too. Use desktop Chrome, Edge, Brave or Firefox with an internet connection. Live streams, the YouTube mobile app and dubbed-video downloads are not supported.
How to Use
1. Find the AutoDub Button
After installation, reload an open YouTube video. Move your pointer over the player to reveal the controls, then click AutoDub on the right. Use a video with a selectable caption track.
2. Select Target Language
Choose Chinese (Simplified) or Chinese (Traditional) for Mandarin, and Cantonese for Cantonese speech. The writing system and spoken variety are separate choices: Traditional Chinese does not mean Cantonese. Then choose a voice and try a short passage with bilingual subtitles before watching the whole video.
3. Press Play
After you pick a language, just press play. AutoDub translates as the video plays, so there is no waiting for the whole video to process.
Adjust Settings
Translated subtitles
Choose “Show above YouTube captions” for both languages, “Show instead of YouTube captions” for the translation alone, or “Don't show” to hide translated subtitles. Subtitle size is under “More settings”. Hiding translated subtitles is available only while dubbing is on.
Transcript
Under “More settings”, enable “Transcript” to read the translated transcript beside the video. Click a line to jump to that point. Opening the panel also translates the remaining sections.
